[It's a particularly cold day in the winter (because i love winter scenarios shut up) and school was closed because of the weekend. Some of the students are out practicing their Quirks in the snow, since as a hero you need to prepare for anything, but others are laying around in their dorm with a bag of chips bored out of their mind because they're sure that the snow wouldn't effect their Quirk poorly either way. Denki went out to check up on his usual group of friends-- but most of them were outside practicing, playing in the snow, hanging with other people or bedridden with the flu and pissed about it (guess who that is), so it's just him today. Just him...
He's not actually sure what Kirishima was up to right now, though. He knows he went out training a few hours ago but surely he'd be finishing up by now right? With that line of thinking, he picks up his cellphone and sends the red-head a couple of LINE messages.]
hey hey, kirishima bakugo's bedridden from the flu today... can you believe it? Σ(・口・) the look on his face was priceless when i told him midoriya was outside practicing his shoot style against snowmen wwww he even tried to get out of bed but because of his fever he could barely sit up... poor guy. i almost feel bad for him
wanna come with me to the store to buy something to cheer him up? we could stop by the hamburger place in the food court for lunch! ☆
[For Kirishima, the cold weather was invigorating. Like hell would he be staying indoors when he could be taking full advantage of being able to run around as much as he wanted without having to worry as much about getting overheated. So that's exactly what he'd done, initially, went out for a run around the block through drifts of snow that hadn't quite been stomped completely out of existence by salarymen going to work early. He knew Bakugou was sick, but he hadn't exactly been very...receptive to his sympathy, and he knew when to best leave him alone anyway.
He'd been about to head back to the dorms when his phone screams at him from his pocket (whatever his text tone is it is very heavy and honestly alarming, like the DUGGADUHHH screech of a guitar riff or something) and sees that Kaminari had texted him.]
hell yeah dude! probably shouldnt bring him food or anything like that though needs something he can handle being sick and all
you shoulda come running with me btw its a good day for it but its cool we can run on the way to the marketplace instead o7
[Oh! He answered pretty quickly! He must have guessed right about Kirishima finishing up for the day.. he's amazing.
Though you know what's not amazing? Kirishima mentioning running on the way to the store. He wanted to take the weekend to, y'know, relax? It's not like they don't spend every single day at school exercizing or training in one way or another....]
running in the snow? are you serious? i don't want to catch the flu like bakugo! he could barely even croak out the word "dumbass"! i don't want to be like that!!!!!
if you want to run around some more you can just meet me at the mall, 'kay? ( ⚆ _ ⚆ )
[Class 1-A was a tight-knit group. They were all close, they all had each other's backs, and apart from a few outliers, everyone got along very well. As was to be expected, generally the girls stuck with the girls and the guys stuck with the guys, but there were outliers to that, too. Ochako, for one, liked to flit around from classmate to classmate like a hummingbird, all smiles and positivity.]
[One of her favorite methods of icebreaking had become something of a running joke in the class, lately-- she'd choose a classmate, between lessons or after classes were through for the day, and come up to them with what seemed like sheer innocence, only to reach out and tap them with her Quirk, sending them floating into the air. It had been particularly funny when she'd done this to Bakugou, until he'd blown up a light fixture and they'd both gotten detention, and Iida, because he'd startled so badly he sent himself zooming out into the hallway with his engines.]
[Today, however, it was Kirishima's turn. She'd been spending a lot of time with Mina, recently, and had learned a lot she hadn't expected about Eijirou. It wasn't that she thought he was flat or uninteresting-- far from it. She'd just assumed him much more straightforward than Mina had assured. So it's with light feet that she trots up behind the red-haired teenager, reaching out to tap him on both shoulders, making him weightless.]
cmon dont be a baby kaminari! i havent even seen you out in the snow yet! and here i thought youd be one of the first out there once it really started comin down
[Then again, how quick he is to forget that Kaminari...is a lazy boy...but he and Kirishima are in the same low-grades boat so really the only thing they don't fully have in common is their perspectives on a good work ethic.]
itll be faster though i guess if i just head on that way...im halfway there as it is text me when u get there if u dont see me, ill hang around the entrance
patrol time with rounddad (also spoiler warning just in case)
[Compared to other days, today felt pretty light on criminal activity. The only real concern he got this whole snow-covered day involved reports of some vandalism. When offered to patrol for the vandal, Fatgum wouldn't turn his back on the chance to help out and offer some experience to one of the students under his tutelage, Kirishima.
All those students working under his wing were precious, no matter how long he knew them. He wouldn't recklessly endanger themselves for one of their earlier heroing sessions. He was sure Kirishima could handle whatever might happen (that is if anything happened anyway).
But! It didn't hurt to come prepared. Which is why his hoodie concealed a bunch of Kit Kat bars of all different flavors. When Kirishima arrived, he'd have a strawberry-flavored one ready for offering.]
Good to see one of my favorite interns! Maybe you want to fill up before we start patrolling?
[That boy... it's not like Denki's lazy he just wants a break................. just let him Rest.........
Okay he might be a little lazy sometimes and this might definitely be one of those times, but he's actually relieved that Kirishima was just going to meet him at the entrance rather than try to get him to run with him there. Maybe if it was a clear spring day he'd be more inclined, but because it's cold he has to wear layers and he doesn't want to be drenched in sweat while walking around the mall. What if he meets a cute girl there? Who'd want to go on a date with a stinky sweat boy????
Either way he gets changed into something fashionable yet practical, topping it off with earmuffs and heads off towards the mall excitedly. Despite the snow, it's bright and sunny out and a really nice day for a walk and the mall luckily wasn't too far away. It takes about fourty five minutes for him to arrive, and he spots Kirishima's bright red hair immediately and whistles to get his attention as he approaches him.]
Hey! How'd that run go for 'ya? Your legs ought to be killing you by now, dude.
[Mina knew Kirishima in a way that most others didn't. She knew him before he started dyeing his hair, and before he became the pinnacle of manly toughness that he touts himself as today. Or, well, he wasn't as much of one back then, at least. He's definitely an interesting boy that's for sure, even if sometimes it seems like his one personality trait is Manly(tm). Or Hard. Or both.
He isn't at all expecting the touch to his shoulders as he's standing around just minding his own business, so by the time he's turned to see who it is, his feet are already starting to lift up off the ground...and there he goes.]
Wh- oi-!!
[He flails his arms a little, kicking his feet in an attempt to turn himself around when he really only manages to sort of roll over in midair, and sure enough when he sees who it is he realizes what exactly just happened.]
That ain't fair, Uraraka! Give a guy a fighting chance if you wanna play tag!
[She just grins, reaching up and holding out her hands. Mina hadn't been specific-- she knew Kirishima wasn't the sort to want his entire backstory explained by someone else. Especially given the Manly visage he shot for, it wasn't right to be told by anyone but himself. Ochako respected that, and had set in her mind to get to know Eijirou on her own. She waits for him to claim her hands.]
[Kirishima had known that things would be tough once he started undertaking real internship work, but that's what he wanted. What he felt like he needed if he were to become a true hero. His first real test in the field just...turned out to be a lot more than he'd been entirely prepared for, at the time. He's glad for it in hindsight because it taught him greatly...but he's also glad to hear that today is just for some patrolling, which at this point feels like a cakewalk in comparison to everything else.
He flashes a toothy grin to Fatgum and meets him halfway, taking the sweet in hand with a chuckle.]
Thanks, sensei! You know I'm ready to come help out anytime.
[He uses the sharp edge of one of his fingers to tear open the wrapper, looking up at the Pro as he waits for him to start out with the intent of following in step with him.]
[Kirishima had actually been here for a good bit before Kaminari arrives, but it's mostly because 1) he was nearly here already and 2) he just...ran the whole way, whereas Kaminari clearly took his time walking. Either way though he raises an arm in greeting, and right away he might notice that Kirishima isn't wearing clothing as thick as he is. In fact, it almost looks not thick enough for snowy weather...at best he's wearing a knit turtleneck and long sweatpants, but no earmuffs or a scarf or anything.]
No way, this ain't really even enough to work up a good sweat.
[Kaminari has to remember that Kirishima doesn't stop for many things, not even the cold of winter. After all, he and Tetsutetsu literally punched each other into submission during the sport's festival, ater all.]
What about you? I mean, you still walked here, I was almost expecting you to just grab a bus.
[Kirishima reaches down for her hands once he's managed to right himself, but by then he's worked himself into such a position that his legs are starting to rise up into the sky ahead of his head and torso. It's a good thing she's here or he really would be going to space.]
You could really do some crazy stuff with that Quirk yaknow...like, if you wanted to you could just send some Villain right to Mars and they wouldn't be able to do anything about it!
[She takes his hands-- specifically, his fingers, and draws him down toward herself, sidestepping his desk so when he lands it's in an open space. She brings their joined hands together, lacing her fingers through his to keep a hold of him while she taps her fingertips together, quietly saying "Release" to allow gravity to drag him back to the ground.]
[She lets go of his hands, then, and taps her index finger to her cheek.]
[Ah, to that, Denki taps his forehead smugly in response.]
It's the perfect day for a walk, Kirishima. Plus, I'm a hero-hopeful! If I can't handle a walk across town then how will I be able to rush to the scene?
[He snaps his fingers and points, towards the entrance of the mall with his other hand placed on his hip.]
Our good comrade is in need of cheering up and I'm in need of a 'burg so you can kind of say that this is just as urgent as an emergency!
[It's always a fascinating thing, watching other peoples' Quirks in action. Kirishima has been surrounded by them all his life, from people who just have a knack for turning their own into a spectacle like Mina, to others who are a spectacle on their own, like Bakugou. Ochako though, on the other hand, was a sort of...middle ground he couldn't quite place. She was excitable and bubbly and tended to make friends with everyone, but she could get flustered and worked up just as easily as anyone else. Easier than some, actually. He can imagine having a Quirk like hers would be a problem in that kind of situation.
He watches her as she fidgets with his hands a little so she can release her Quirk's hold on him, and it's almost too quickly how fast he goes back down to the ground. He's ready for it though, so he at least doesn't end up flat on his ass.
Once he's on solid ground he leans back on his heels and smirks, showing off his rows of spiked teeth.]
Hoh, is that right? I should know better than to underestimate you, then!
[He rubs the back of his neck, following the line of Kaminari's sight to where he's pointing before gesturing vaguely for him to walk along with him.]
Be thinkin' of something that might be good for him by the way...I was trying to come up with ideas on the way here but I'm drawing blanks. Bakugou's not really all that easy to shop for, yaknow?
Plus, we can't make him feel weaker than he already does. Then it'll be like we're pitying him instead of trying to make him feel better and that'll just make it worse.
[She grins at him, balling both hands into fists near her face like a boxer, bouncing onto her toes and back.]
That's right! Even Bakugou took me seriously in a fight, I'm nothing to shake a stick at! [She's a little proud of that. But then she draws her hands closer to her collarbone, setting her knuckles there and the gesture looks much more girlish and meek, her smile softening.] But! We've been classmates for a while, and I don't know you very well! So-- what's the "manly" way to ask this. [She... just threw a gang hand symbol, her hand splayed as she ducked forward into a slight crouch.] We should hang!!
[Of course Denki follows right alongside of him, his hands shoved into the pockets of his jeans as he thinks. He'd been thinking on the way to the mall himself but Kirishima's right... he's extremely hard to shop for.]
Think he'd get pissed if we got him a heated blanket? Would that make you feel like you're being pitied I mean.. everyone knows he does poorly in the cold, anyway.
He's probably freezing his ass off in the dorms more than people usually would, even ignoring that he's sick right now.
[He very nearly laughs at her without meaning to, but oh my god Ochako what is that. He'd have taken it more seriously from someone like Mina, because she just...does that, but something about that is just really funny 'and he can't put his finger on why. But once the urge to chuckle has passed- mostly- he lifts a hand and rubs the back of his neck.]
'Hang' with Uraraka, huh...
[On the word "hang", Kirishima suddenly mimics exactly what she just did, throwing out his hand and crouching down with a lot more difficult of a time not laughing this time. He pops back up a second later though, letting his hands relax again so he can push them into his pockets.]
[The good news, at least, is she's very difficult to offend. So when he crouches down and mimics her strange gang signs, she laughs right with him as she stands back straight. She claps her hands together a moment later, delighted, and curls the fingers of one hand around the other.]
Great! I'm sorry, I don't really know much about being manly, but-- You're an expert, so you should absolutely teach me.
I dunno...guy tends to run pretty hot when he ain't sick as it is.
[Odd that you know that.]
Guess it wouldn't hurt to check 'em out though. Might be worth seein' if we can find some sports drinks too. He'd probably like that, I don't think we have any around the dorms right now.
[Why is he here? Tamaki wonders as he and Kirishima are seated in a corner of an udon shop, highly requested by Fat Gum. Kirishima had rambled something about wanting to get him lunch, this would be a great bonding experience, two manly men spending time together etc etc he'd said so many things Tamaki couldn't recall. He hadn't quite been listening as they continued the end of their patrol. He was pretty sure he'd declined, but here they were anyway.
A few more people begin filtering into the restaurant, one or two, a group of four girls, all giggling among themselves, another two, two groups of three. There's suddenly too many people. Did they hit peak hours?]
I think it's time to go.
[Even though they literally just got there. His voice is a quiet murmur as his head slowly begins to lower.]
I don't want to ruin these people's meal. I must be unsightly to look at.
[Almost indistinct mumbling. Further and further, until with a soft thunk his forehead meets the table and his face is completely hidden. It's the best he can do.]
[It's that aptitude that Fatgum admires in the young hero. That eagerness to be a hero, the earnestness that reminded him of himself and his peers in their prime.
He takes out a kit kat for himself, delicately unwrapping to break off a piece.]
That's what I like hearing!
[He goes ahead, keeping the pace even enough for the rock hero to keep up.]
There's some vandalism around this part of the city. We're keeping an eye out in case they make the bad choice of trying it again.
Katsuki rolls his eyes as he slouches far back against his seat on the couch, practically draping along it like a blanket. He’s been helping Eijiro, a.k.a. “Dumb Hair” for hours on his math homework, and there’s almost no end in sight. He glances at the clock on the wall of the dorm’s communal living room and notices that it’s...
God fucking damn it.
10PM.
His growl starts low until it increases to something deadly. Katsuki sits upright abruptly and slams a closed fist at the top of Kirishima’s head. Bonking it several times. Hard. He knows Kirishima’s good for it, what with his hard fucking skull. ]
Damn IT, this shit’s not even hard, you moron! It’s a fucking word problem, write the goddamn numbers out!
[ BONK BONK BONK ]
I should’ve been in bed three hours ago!
[ He goes to bed early every night YOU KNOW THIS ]
