[Izuku knows better than to pity someone like Togata-senpai. The young man has seen more combat than him, is closer even now to becoming a pro than he is, and if anyone expects this injury and circumstance to slow him down, well...they just don't know him.
[Not to imply that Izuku thinks he knows him better than most; he's spent time with him in the field, and shared a very deep and personal development with him, but he knows very little of who he's been in his life leading up to the man he is now. Still, Mirio is the only person Izuku can think of as being someone he could talk to about what they've seen. He hasn't told Bakugou; and he could, if he wanted to. He could tell him that Mirio was destined for One For All. He could tell him that he thinks Mirio was the better fit. He could tell him that he thinks Mirio might not have gotten hurt this way if he'd had that power.
[But he didn't. He doesn't. And Izuku has come to terms with that being okay. He's still working, and in the meantime, he has the free hours to see and socialize with Eri frequently. From Izuku's perspective, this is just a period of a sort of therapy for Mirio, in the wake of his losses.
[However, when Izuku's heard that he's still doing combat training with other third years, he has to admit that he needs to see this. It's a great opportunity to watch him fight without his quirk, and so he does watch, and he does get to write things down in his notebook about the man closest to being number one.

[He also gets to chase him down when it's over.]
Togata-senpai!
